The on-line edition of Der Freitag publishes an article by Wael El Semary, editor at the Egyptian journal El-You El-Sabea. The author uses the example of the archaeological disaster at Lahun to highlight the shortcomings of the Zahi era from the point of view of scientific research. I just would like to add that while most of his statements are undoubtedly to the point, it would be a huge mistake to hold Zahi alone responsible for the unfortunate situation. What I find it even more frustrating is that the person whose fieldwork activities resulted in the destruction of more than fifty monuments in the vast cemetery is still in position at the SCA.
